Christmas time

I know I haven’t written anything up in ages, but I’ve been busy! So to explain, I was firstly our in Australia for Christmas and then came straight home to exams.

Australia was the best, even though I was only over for 2 weeks, it definitely felt like more. The weather wasn’t too hot but I did actually manage to get bunted one of the days.

Upon arrival home to a snowy Ireland I was informed that my exams which were meant to commence on the Monday were postponed to that following Thursday. I was delighted as I haven’t studied for them at all!

The two weeks spent in Oz were really worth the flight. Melbourne city is a beautiful and vibrant place, packed with delicious restaurants, where I over indulged in my favourite tofu! Yummy! :) We did a lot more than eat however, one of the first days was Christmas day so that was fun eating in the garden! We also went to the cricket the following day, and i managed to understand, finally the rules of the game. Couldn’t believe the players were taking a break for lunch though! Crazy.

One of the days we went to Summa Dayz, a festival starting really early in the morning and finishing up late at night. We were gifted with VIP tics and had a good time. Leaving early we went to a boat party. Started off a bit weird. A girl decided to tag onto us, I abandoned her. She was such a freak, like pretending to know people we knew,….after the boat party which turned out fine after the incident we decided to go to a house party. There was no way we were going to pay in, $80 a ticket, we went in late so nobody said anything, but this apartment was worth like 4 million so as you can imagine, extremely well located and fabulously decorated.

The whole holiday was brilliant. We also hired a car and drove down the Great Ocean Road. It was really fantastic. We stayed in a town called Lorne and the beach at this place was stunning. This is where we got burned, but luckily mine sorta turned into tan. Bad enough tan lines though. At least I can cover mine with fake tan.

Anyways, that was my fantastic holiday!,..,minus the fights obviously. Exams didn’t go too badly either considering the little cramming I did the night before compared with my nerd friends. One of whom, who i’m actually really close just told me yesterday that’s she thinking of dropping out of the course and to do event management instead. I’ll be really sad when she goes, but hopefully I’ll be able to sway her mind.

Also one last thing before I go, Herios is the best HBO series ever. I’m so addicted and keep thinking about it, when are we going to watch it next? Can we please just watch one more? Yeah and so on.

Cool, thanks for reading. Everyone should have a cool pair of GREEN headphones. I love mine.

Books

Before Christmas, I went looking for a book to read and picked up a title called ‘The Broken Window’ by Jeffery Deaver. I vaguely remembered reading one of his books years ago and Im pretty sure that I really enjoyed it so that was it. Anyway, it turned out to be a really good read. So I bought another two for my recent trip to Melbourne, ‘More Twisted’ – a collection of short stories. Again – awesome read. His books are mostly crime/detective based, but they are very intricately written and require a definite grasp of not just language, but social and informative skills.

I had previously read a book by Michael Connelly, ‘The Overlook’ – I was aware that this author is huge and very popular, and his books are widely available and visible in any bookstore throughout the world – but this book, being an alright read, was so simply written and so obviously written that I couldnt believe how bad the author was. I knew while reading it that some of the plot-lines and english used were blatantly simplistic and could have been aimed at kids, not their intended target audience. Once i read Deaver’s book afterwards, the contrast became clear and I decided to go on a ‘binge’ of reading Deaver, as at least I know that I will get a good read and not be treated like an idiot who has no concept of moderately advanced writings.

Anyway, just today I’ve gone and bought 4 new Deaver books! Ive just gone insane buying them, and trying to make sure that I have another one to read once Ive finished the one Im currently reading! So right now Ive started ‘The Bodies Left behind’ and after this Ive got Twisted, The Vanished Man, Garden of Beasts and Manhattan is My Beat. Phew Ive turned into some kind of book freak wtf!

He does sound like a cool guy though, I mean he’s a former folk singer, journalist and attorney. And he wrote the Bone Collector, which is neat. Epic.
